Job overview

The post holder will work at Bristol Eye Hospital and will be responsible for supervising a team of validators to carry out RTT validation and data quality checks on over 7000 RTT pathways. This will include the need to process patient pathway activity against the patient access policy and the supporting standard operating system guidance. The Senior RTT Validator and Trainer will be an expert in RTT national guidance and will support the more junior validators in the team and provide training to other departments across the hospital site. In doing so you will be expected to provide high quality checks on patients’ pathways using the electronic patient tracking lists and audit against the Referral to Treatment (RTT) national standards to support the delivery of the Trust achieving the RTT Performance standards. 

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder is responsible for ensuring that relevant validation and staff training on RTT is provided to ensure that the wider staffs within the Bristol Eye hospital site are recording correct information to support the performance delivery month-on-month.
  • post-holder is expected to deliver training sessions at desk in smaller groups and 1:1 sessions to support staff in the RTT national rules. 
  • The post-holder will require a high level of confidence and an expert knowledge in RTT in order to deliver against this requirement. 
  • The post-holder will support the validators managing the on holds, inactive referrals and monitoring the risk of overdue partial bookings. 
  • Day to day supervision of the validators will be required to ensure that validation of RTT patients on our patient tracking lists is carried out and that month-end performance is achieved. Where validation errors are noted, these should be escalated to the Performance & Operations Manager immediately for further action to be taken. 
  • The post holder will be expected to provide and receive complex information relating to patients and their treatment pathway, this information can contain sensitive information relating to the patients diagnosis and treatment plan. This information will contain queries regarding potential clock stops, suspensions and pathways which have an on hold status.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

  • Previous administration and clerical experience
  • Experience of using a Patient Administration System (preferably Careflow)
  • Experience of being involved in changes to policy or standard operating procedures

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of providing training courses to colleagues / others both on a 1:1 basis and in classroom
  • Extracting performance reports or RTT related information including experience of outpatient and elective waiting list management

  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy

  • Working knowledge of outpatient policies and procedures (access policy, SOPs and RTT standards)

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

  • Educated to GCSE, grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths
  • Business and Administration Level 4 NVQ or equivalent experience
