Job Requirements/Description

We are looking for an experienced Costing Specialist to join our Pre-Award Finance team at the University of Bristol. Based within the Research Centre of Excellence, the Costing Specialist will support academics with the development of internationally renowned research, consultancy, and other activity funding applications.

The team play a key role in pre-award stage support across a variety of Faculties and Divisions, providing insight and guidance on a portfolio of bids. This is an excellent opportunity to make an impact as part of the dynamic research carried out at the University, providing detailed finance analysis and accounting services.    

As Costing Specialist, you will use your expertise to make sure the maximum price is achieved for the University within the eligible costs, relevant terms, and within scheme and funder rules. You will work closely with the Finance Manager to produce quality financial information to improve decision making, enabling strategic initiatives, and improving financial performance.

What will you be doing?

  • You will manage a large portfolio of applications and awards at any one time and will need to be able to prioritise work effectively and manage expectations, whilst ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Provide insight, finance models and impact analysis to the Heads of School to aid with their decisions concerning complex bids and the effects of financial institutional commitments.
  • Take ownership of data entered into the University Worktribe system ensuring accuracy, integrity and completeness.

You should apply if

  • An aptitude for working in a financial environment you can proactively demonstrate initiative to seek solutions to complex problems.
  • You can analyse data and take decisions on the correct accounting treatment.
  • You either have an AAT qualification or have been educated to degree level. Alternatively, you can demonstrate the equivalent experience.
  • With excellent communication and Excel skills, you are able to work independently as well as part of a team.
