Are you an enthusiastic Mechanical Engineer looking for the next step in your career? Are you able to follow project engineering procedures? Do you have excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills?

If so, join us as a Piping Engineer and you’ll join one of the most exciting and ambitious projects within EDF, as we continue to lead the rebirth of nuclear in the UK.

The Opportunity...

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) established in 2023, oversees the design (basic design) and the realisation (studies, procurement, erection, testing and commissioning) of nuclear islands for new projects.

EPR-E is responsible for delivering the design for a number of NI buildings, systems and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project through an integrated team, support to HPC construction and commissioning activities, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. Therefore, a Technical Directorate is being created, responsible for the engineering disciplines and technical expertise required to deliver the different engineering projects through integrated teams in EPR-E.

We are currently seeking a junior to mid-grade engineer to join our esteemed piping design team.

As a Piping Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in the detailed design of a 300km piping network for the Nuclear Island, overseeing the process from the outset to fabrication and erection on site. Your contributions will be integral to our Open Point and UK Design Change management processes, ensuring all impacts are accurately categorised and logged for resolution.

Pay, benefits and culture…

Alongside a salary from £53,000 to £58,000, we offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme, a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle, and the opportunity to earn bonus.

At EDF, everyone’s welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application, making adjustments as you need.

We’ll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.

What you’ll be doing…

  • Ensuring timely delivery of piping work packages and resolve issues blocking design maturity to support HPC installation schedule.
  • Participating in the CTS delivery process, including kick-off meetings and documentation delivery.
  • Overseeing piping and support design, including modelling in the 3D model.
  • Preparing CAD tasks for designers in tracker and monitor completion.
  • Leading troubleshooting investigations for emergent design issues.
  • Interfacing with other departments to facilitate issue closure and ensuring adherence to internal procedures and standards.
  • Maintaining high-quality design in the PDMS model and proposing technical solutions for design issues.

Who you are…

Your background may include some of the following:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent diploma.
  • Knowledge of piping engineering and plant design principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive and self-motivated approach to task completion.
  • Ability to meet commitments and deadlines, following project engineering procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable interfacing outside of immediate team, and sharing knowledge to support team goals.
