Salary: If you are under 18 years the salary is £9.60 per hour (£18,470 per annum); for those 18 years and older the salary is £12 per hour (£23,151 per annum) for a 37 hours week.

What will I be doing?

As a Pensions Apprentice, you'll have the opportunity to learn and develop essential skills in pension administration while contributing to the efficient administration of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). You'll work alongside experienced professionals in our Pensions Team, receiving training and guidance to support your growth and development.

You will assist with the delivery of routine administrative tasks, dealing with day-to-day work including (but not limited to):

  1. Assisting with the administration of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) by answering telephone enquiries, responding to emails and undertaking pension member one to ones.
  2. Providing administrative support in maintaining accurate records of pension scheme members, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
  3. Collaborating with team members to respond to pension-related queries from scheme members, employers, and external stakeholders.
  4. Participate in other pension related activities including year end, outsourcing of Council services and pension related matters arising from the Council’s change programme.

What do I need to have?

  1. Very good numeracy skills. Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English (or equivalent), which is a Grade C or 4 GCSE.
  2. Ability to manage time effectively, by organising and prioritising tasks in order to achieve deadlines.
  3. Very good communication skills both verbally and in writing to communicate with officers at all levels in the organisation.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  5. Research, investigation and numeracy skills to answer pension queries.
  6. Commitment to own personal development including completion of appropriate pension courses.

To apply for an adult apprenticeship, you must be aged 16 years or over, at the start of employment with qualifications in English and Maths. If you do not have these, then you must be prepared to study for the Function Skills Level 2 in both subjects alongside your apprenticeship.
