The role
The University of Bristol’s Department of Philosophy wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Philosophy. This is a full-time, open-ended position with fixed funding for 3 years on Pathway 3 (primary responsibility for teaching, rather than research). The appointee must have teaching and supervision competency in Epistemology and Philosophy of Technology/AI. This should include the ability to teach our second-year units Epistemology and Philosophy in the Digital Age. The appointee must be able to to supervise final-year essay projects on a broad range of philosophical topics and have the ability to provide general academic advice/support to students. Competency in Philosophy of Mind and/or Philosophy of Science is desirable.
What will you be doing?
- Teach on undergraduate and postgraduate units in the area competency at all levels, in particular on the units Epistemology and Philosophy in the Digital Age.
- Teaching tasks will include: preparing and effectively delivering lectures; prepare and leading teaching in small groups; contributing to the delivery of teaching and learning activities which effectively incorporate engagement and knowledge exchange; setting and marking coursework, examinations and other assessment tasks in a timely fashion and to an appropriate standard.
- Supervise final-year essay projects on a broad range of philosophical topics.
- Act as personal tutor to undergraduate students and support their learning.
