Job Requirements/Description

Part-Time (18.5 hours per week, 2.5 days), Fixed Term - 31st March 2025

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an established and supportive team as a Child Protection Chair.

This is a key role in our Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Service. Offering independent oversight of children and families where there are child protection concerns.

To ensure there is high quality, timely reviews taking place, where there is effective partner agency work and support being offered for children and families that will address the needs and secure positive outcomes.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed, and experienced social worker who is passionate about improving the lives of vulnerable children and families to join a well-established Child Protection Conference team.

In Bristol we are committed to embedding a systemic practice-based approach alongside signs of safety methodology in how we work with children and families. As a Child Protection Chair, you will be confident and able to facilitate meaningful conversations in conference with families and professionals about worries, harm, and protective factors. Giving the space to co-create plans with children and families, to create safety and support families to make meaningful and sustainable change.

You will need substantial experience in statutory social work with children and families, with emphasis on the area of child protection. As a Child Protection Chair you will need to have detailed knowledge and understanding of the types of harm children face and the evidence-based approaches for protecting children from further harm and enabling their recovery.

You need to have an extensive understanding of statutory child protection processes, including public law outline and legal processes.

Through a collaborative approach we want to continue to develop the offer for children in Bristol and their families when there are child protection concerns.

As a team we see the benefits of meeting regularly and having good quality peer support and reflective supervision, both in terms of our service development and individually.

We are a team that is supportive of each other, and we work closely with the Independent Reviewing service for children in care. This is means we can share a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the areas of child protection, child in need, and children in care.
