Are you a Data Protection expert ready to take your career to the next level? Do you excel in navigating data protection laws and practices? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where every day brings new challenges and opportunities?

If so, join us as a Data Protection Specialist and you’ll join one of the most exciting and ambitious projects within EDF, as we continue to lead the rebirth of nuclear in the UK.

The Opportunity...

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

As a Data Protection Specialist, you will play a crucial role in implementing effective data protection strategies and ensuring compliance with complex privacy regulations. You will safeguard all company data, with a particular focus on personal data and data security, ensuring the business remains compliant in a rapidly evolving digital landscape within the demanding construction industry.

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of one of the largest and most complex projects in Europe, contributing to the country’s future energy needs.

Pay, benefits and culture…

Alongside a salary from £50,000 to £60,000, we offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme, a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle, and the opportunity to earn bonus.

What you’ll be doing…

  • Serving as the primary liaison for employees, regulators, and relevant public authorities on data protection matters within the business.
  • Ensuring company policies, practices, and procedures comply with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), DPA (Data Protection Act 2018), and other international laws.
  • Assessing the current data protection framework to identify and rectify areas of partial compliance.
  • Achieving and maintaining sustainable compliance within the business.
  • Providing data protection guidance to employees and both embedded and non-embedded contractors working on the project.
  • Promoting a culture of data protection, security, and compliance throughout all business units.
  • Possessing a thorough understanding of the construction and energy industries and their associated risks.
  • Facilitating collaboration with InfoSec, Legal, Commercial, Supply Chain, Digital and IT, PMO, Security, and Document Control teams.

Who you are…

Your background may include some of the following:

  • Over three years of experience in data protection compliance, with expertise in GDPR and data protection laws and practices.
  • Proven experience collaborating with legal, audit, information security, or risk management teams, coupled with strong project management skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information effectively under pressure.
  • Professional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with individuals at all organisational levels, with the capability to work unsupervised, exercise leadership, and influence change.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in information security, including pursuing certifications such as IAPP, CompTIA Security+, ISO 27001, and CISSP/CISM.
  • Prior experience working in Nuclear, asset intensive and/or Safety Critical industries would be beneficial.
