Hours: 40 per week, Monday - Friday

Purpose of the role:

The Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the data infrastructure at Bristol Waste Company. This includes the creation and optimisation of a data lake/warehouse, ensuring efficient data management and integration across the organisation. The role will support data-driven decision-making by providing robust and scalable data solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain data infrastructure including data lakes and data warehouses to support business analytics and reporting needs.
  • Develop ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to integrate data from various sources into the data lake/warehouse.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity by implementing data validation and cleansing processes.
  • Collaborate with Data Analysts and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver suitable data solutions.
  • Optimise data storage and retrieval processes to enhance performance and scalability.
  • Manage and monitor data pipelines, ensuring they run efficiently and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
  • Implement data governance practices to ensure compliance with data security and protection regulations.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of data architectures, data flows, and processes.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance data management practices and infrastructure.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to other team members on data engineering best practices

Essential Requirements for the Role:

  • Proven experience in data engineering, data architecture, or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts and experience with cloud-based data storage solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
  • Proficient and experienced in SQL databases
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java etc
  • Familiarity with data governance and data security best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex data issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
