Do you like working outdoors? Are you a hands-on person who gets thing done? Do you want a career in waste management and sustainability? If so, we have a great opportunity within our Solid Waste Resources team as a Composting Technician!

What you'll do

You will be based at our award-winning compost & aggregate facility in Avonmouth which provides cost-effective and sustainable waste solutions not only internally, but to the wider water and waste industries.

As a Composting Operator you will lead and optimise day-to-day operations, focusing on first line maintenance of plant and equipment. You role will involve:

  • managing the compost pad and the grit buster to operational standards.
  • completing first line maintenance on screening equipment including greasing and cleaning.
  • controlling imports into the composting and aggregate facilities to not contravene the Environment Agency (EA) permit.
  • receiving and keeping records of expected imports into the composting facility.
  • taking samples of imports as per training and instruction to maintain EA permits.
  • driving and completing routine maintenance on plant equipment and upkeeping competency for them.
  • carrying out vehicle and trailer daily checks and reporting defects.

You will be required to work closely with other areas of the business such as logistics and wider site activities.

The position offered is on a full-time basis, 45 hours, Monday to Friday from 7am to 4pm. 

What you'll need

You will need an interest in the industry or be looking to start a career in sustainability.

You will also need:

  • previous experience in waste management a bonus.
  • ability to arrange own time to cover various activities.
  • sound communication skills including logging data withing Microsoft office.
  • the ability to drive and operate plant equipment.
  • the ability to manage your time effectively.
  • have a good eye for detail.
  • excellent customer service skills.
  • to be confident liaising with a range of contacts both internally and externally.
