This is an exciting opportunity to gain invaluable administrative and data skills and experience while supporting the work of the Contracts and Commissioning team, which sits within Bristol City Council’s wider Housing Options service. Along with the rest of the team and in partnership with a variety of internal colleagues and external partner organisations, your work will help to address, prevent, and reduce homelessness throughout the city.

Previous Business Administration apprentices have progressed into permanent Bristol City Council roles in HR, Finance and Projects, following the successful completion of their apprenticeship. Many have also gone onto obtain additional qualifications funded by the Council.

The Contracts and Commissioning team plans, sets up, and monitors numerous services that provide support and accommodation to people experiencing homelessness. The successful candidate will provide essential support to the team while working on a wide variety of administrative, organisational, and data-related tasks. These tasks will include:

  • Data input and analysis;
  • Producing reports;
  • Managing all correspondence that arrives in the team’s central inbox;
  • Organising and helping at events with external partners;
  • Assisting with the recommissioning process across our services.

An interest in homelessness and a desire to learn more about the subject area would be advantageous. We enthusiastically welcome applications from those with lived experience of homelessness.

GCSE Grade 4 or equivalent in English and Maths are desirable; this includes international equivalent qualifications. The ideal candidate will also have good IT skills, with the ability to use Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and a willingness to learn how to use new computer applications and internal databases confidently.

Good oral and written communication skills would be advantageous, as would strong organisational skills, problem solving, attention to detail and the ability to work well in a team. Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is willing and enthusiastic to learn and develop their skills, and has an interest in working in a high priority area with a fast-paced team.

To apply for an adult apprenticeship, you must be aged 16 years or over at the start of employment with qualifications in English and Maths. If you do not have these, then you must be prepared to study for the Function Skills Level 2 in both subjects alongside your apprenticeship.

At Bristol City Council, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high-profile organisation. For the majority of our roles, hybrid working arrangements are available, giving teams the opportunity to work in a way that suits them, balancing service need and individual choice – mixing both home and office working.

We value having a workforce as diverse as the city we serve. We therefore welcome, develop and promote people from all sections of the community. We particularly welcome applications from young; Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic, and Disabled candidates who are currently under-represented within the Bristol City Council workforce.

Appointments will be made on merit.

Join us and you’ll receive membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, and a generous annual leave allowance. In addition, you’ll be working in a supportive environment where you’ll have the chance to make Bristol a better place and contribute to its future.
