Fixed Term for 18 months, Part Time 15 hours per week working Saturday and Sunday.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and approachable person to join our friendly Operations Team working 15 hours a week on Saturdays and Sundays. There will be opportunities for overtime to cover holiday periods for other staff.

Where will I be working?

Bristol Cycling Centre is currently based in Hengrove at the old Whitchurch athletics track which is where you will be working. It’s off Bamfield in Hengrove, for sat nav use BS14 0XA. The centre runs cycling sessions, offering inclusive training, support and cycling activities to riders of all ages and abilities in a traffic free environment all year round.

The centre hosts a large range of cycles including two-wheelers, balance bikes and all abilities cycles with 3 and 4 wheels, handcycles and side by side companion cycles.

The centre is staffed by the Operations Officers, and a team of Bikeability Instructors and offers regular volunteering opportunities as well as internships and work experience places to people of all ages.  

Helping people learning to ride or trying cycling for the first time never gets old and encouraging people to share the joy of riding is very rewarding.

The centre is very popular especially at weekends and sessions are often fully booked. 

What will I be doing?

You will be part of a team helping to cover the grounds and building maintenance, supporting the volunteers and interns, as well as providing general office and reception duties at the centre all year round and in all weathers.

Hundreds of people come cycling each week to the different sessions offered. You will be the first point of contact for our customers at reception, helping to manage our booking system, taking bookings and payments at the centre, and helping keep our data, recording and finance information up to date for funding applications.

You will keep our buildings clean, safe, and well maintained and take responsibility for health & safety across the site. Conducting regular H&S checks, maintaining accurate logs and records, updating risk assessments will also be part of the role.

You will help keep the grounds, pathways, and areas tidy, clean, safe and well maintained. Liaising with contractors and suppliers when required, ensuring best value for services provided to the centre.

You will help attract and support volunteers, and work placements. Coordinate, plan and supervise the activities and tasks they undertake. Enabling them to achieve tasks safely and to a high standard, provide feedback where required and create achievement records for participant’s portfolios.

You will help with monitoring, reporting, and stocktaking at the centre, as well as ordering supplies ensuring we have sufficient cycle parts for maintenance and other products we use.

You will help create our Social Media posts, respond to enquiries, keep the timetables and information on our website current and contribute to planning the services we deliver.

What skills do I need to have?

We are looking for approachable people who are practically minded and self-motivated.

This is a wide-ranging role with the opportunity to develop skills and experience. A can-do attitude is a must, and you will be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.

The ability to organise and prioritise work, especially when there are conflicting demands.

Experience working as a first point of contact in a public facing capacity, managing office tasks, cash handling, prepared to learn to use different software.

Proven knowledge and experience of building maintenance and/or facilities management including H&S checks, writing risk assessments, and keeping accurate records.

Experience of grounds maintenance and gardening and coordinating, supervising activities with young people, people with disabilities, volunteers, or community groups.

Experience of creating social media posts and web page content such as timetables, session descriptions with accurate, interesting, and relevant content would be good, though we can teach you these web-based skills once you’re with us.
