Great opportunity has become available for a Hazard Engineer to work for large nuclear projects. Working in conjunction with the Building Group Leaders, the Nuclear Safety Team, the System Engineers, Civil Engineers and Plant Layout Engineers.

As a Hazard Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting studies relation to internal and external hazards including internal explosion, extreme cold, pipework ruptures and/or earthquakes; assuring that classified equipment meets the protection requirements. You will be attached to one dedicated building, and will be the correspondent for the integration of all the hazard studies in the early stages of the design and with the support of referent engineer.

This role is a permanent position to be based in Bristol with occasional travel to France.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Propose changes or optimisation in order to de-risk at an early stage, the design related to hazard protection requirements.

* Produce studies relating to internal and external hazard for buildings.

* Produce simplified design calculation hypotheses and define the various possible scenarios for each internal or external threat situation.

* Identify the equipment under threat and also the way in which the equipment would be affected.

* Produce studies on the functional redundancies impacted.

* provide contributions to the safety report and the doctrine and liaise with the client and the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR).

* For layout changes, relay to the building general layout controllers the changes to be made to the general layout, highlighted by the functional analysis studies completed by the architect engineer. Present the results of these studies regularly to the project teams.

REQUIREMENTS

* Engineering Degree qualified, preferably Mechanical or Electrical.

* Experience in the area of hazard studies, systems, layout engineering and pipework.

* Good knowledge of safety requirements.

* Knowledge and the ability to navigate PDMS, Navisworks software and MS office (Word and Excel).

* Demonstrable ability to write clearly-expressed and well-presented reports.

* Excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate at all levels with ability to take a strategic view.

* Ability to speak French is advantageous.
