Job Summary

We have a Structures Engineer role is in our clients Structures Design Team based Bristol working on the South West Design Services Contract which is part of Highways England South West Design Support Contract.

Reporting to the Structures Design Manager or Team Leader / Senior Structures Engineer your main responsibility will be to prepare detailed designs for maintenance and improvement schemes, additionally the Client may request that you also carry out structures scheme identification and study work. You will be required to manage your own schemes and support, where possible, other staff including junior staff in the Structures Design Team.

Job Details

The responsibilities:
· Detailed design of maintenance and improvement schemes - Scheme Development Stage 2 (Design and management) with support from more senior members.
·Cost and budget control including preparation and reporting of cost estimates.
·Producing and monitoring scheme programmes.
·Preparation of reports, drawings, specifications and Contract Documents, including
oScheme Risk Registers
oScheme information documents
·As-built drawings and post completion reviews.
·Compliance with Highways England and SWDSC QSE processes, procedures and reporting requirements.
·Compliance with Highways England performance requirements.
·Liaison with the Highways England and other stakeholders.
·Compliance with QSE requirements including CDM.

Additionally, you may need to carry out:
·Management and supervision of more junior Structures Design Team Members.
·Structural inspections, assessments and checks.
·Structures studies and scheme identification work.
·Value management and engineering including early contractor involvement and liaison with Project Managers and construction teams.

The requirements:
·Degree (or equivalent) in structural or civil engineering.
·Membership of a relevant professional institution at Graduate Eng level.
·Driving licence desirable.

Skills and experience:
·Previous experience and ability in carrying out structural inspections, studies, scheme identification, assessment and design work.
·Knowledge and experience of relevant design standards including DMRB and other Highways England standards.
·Proficient IT skills - including some experience of structural assessment and design software.
·Understanding of health and safety management and the requirements of CDM.
·Understanding of Highways England processes, procedures and performance requirements.
