About the role

The Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) is the United Kingdom vehicle type approval authority, our principal role is to support industry by providing internationally recognised testing and certification for vehicles, their systems and components.

This post is in the Standards & Legal team which looks after legislation information provision for the Agency, which is mission critical in the discharge of our type approval duties.

The main purpose of the Legislation Analyst & Manager is to analyse legislation, understand and abstract key information (such as dates of application according to the different kinds of vehicle or components) and transpose the key information into a more readily understandable form, and make it available to diverse users.

As the post holder you will be responsible for:

• analysing legislation obtained from United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and European Union (EU) websites and other sources
• overseeing the maintenance and development of the systems, collaborating with users to understand their needs and with suppliers to deliver improvements
• giving advice to enquirers on type approval and other legislation and assisting in transposing legislation into UK statutes (where and if required)
• managing transitional schemes (end of series derogations and Tractor / Non Road Mobile Machinery (NRMM) flexibility schemes)
• providing type approval advice and a Certificate of Conformity checking service for DVLA

Occasional travel may be required to other VCA or DfT sites in UK (e.g. Nuneaton, Westminster)

About you

You will have good communication skills with a good telephone and e-mail manner.
You will have the ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative with minimum supervision.
You will have BTEC Level 4 or similar in an engineering discipline or equivalent relevant experience and a willingness to work towards this (training will be available)
