Job Requirements/Description

Why Bristol City Council?

At Bristol City Council, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high-profile organisation. For the majority of our roles hybrid working arrangements are available, giving teams the opportunity to work in a way that suits them, balancing service need and individual choice - mixing both home and office working.

Join us and you’ll receive an excellent rewards package including flexible working and flexitime, membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, and a generous annual leave allowance. In addition, you’ll be working in a supportive environment where you’ll have the chance to make Bristol a better place and contribute to its future.

How would you like to influence the lives of around 64,000 people living in our 28,000 properties across Bristol?

As the largest residential landlord in the city, the Housing and Landlord Services Team has a key role in ensuring our existing and new homes are safe, secure, affordable and sustainable.

What will I be doing?

We are looking for a Building Survey Programme Manager to deliver our survey programmes of work, including stock condition and structural surveys. This role will capture the information to inform both our Decent Homes assessment and drive our capital maintenance programme. Furthermore, we are capturing additional information to better understand the structural condition of our high-rise properties. This is a new role in the team, which will allow someone to take on this role and shape it in a manner that reflects their experience and capabilities.

You will be part of the Asset Strategy Team, whose responsibilities range from establishing the 30-year housing investment plan worth billions, to identifying the properties to receive new kitchens and bathrooms in the next 12 months. The team is diverse in its experience and capability and operates in a way that aligns with Bristol City Council culture and behavioural requirements:

  • We are Dedicated: We strive to make a difference.
  • We are Curious; We ask questions and explore possibilities.
  • We show Respect: We treat each other fairly.
  • We take Ownership: We accept personal accountability.
  • We are Collaborative: We come together to reach shared goals.

Do I have what you are looking for?

  • Substantial experience, knowledge and expertise in procurement, and contract management within a survey, operational works, or capital works environment.
  • The ability to successfully manage relationships with stakeholders at all levels across an organisation.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety so everyone remains safe during our activities.
  • A capability to design and operate a quality assurance system that produces high quality and accurate outputs.
  • A driving licence and use of own vehicle: you won’t succussed in this role working from home 5 days per week.
  • An ability to demonstrate alliance with the above values and behaviours.

So, if you have experience and enthusiasm for operational contract management, excellent team management and stakeholder management experience, an ability generate high quality output working with suppliers, and a willingness to drive change, then we look forward to receiving your application.

Please note that this role is subject to a Basic DBS Check.
