The School of Humanities invites applications for a Research administrator for AHRC project Rewriting the Bible: Medieval Poems and Modern Audiences (PrincipaI Investigator: Dr Cathy Hume)
This project aims to return medieval biblical poetry to the centre of literary study of this period. It involves the creation of an open access anthology of medieval biblical poems aimed at undergraduate students, and the staging of one of the poems, ‘The Life of Job’. The play will be staged in June 2025 at a ticketed feast at Winterbourne Medieval Barn, with a workshop beforehand at the March 2025 meeting of the Medieval English Theatre Society at the University of Bristol. The performance will function as practice based research, and will involve investigating the audience’s responses as well as the creative decisions made. A documentary film will also be made.
What will you be doing?
The role will require you to:
- Complete administrative tasks to support the project, escalating issues as required.
- Support the organisation of the Medieval English Theatre (METh) Conference, booking rooms and organising catering, administering booking system, creating programme, and making other practical arrangements.
- Provide practical ad hoc support to principal investigator (PI) Dr Cathy Hume, creative team and film maker during rehearsal periods and on the day of performance. Keep logs of decisions as required during rehearsal periods to aid production and subsequent journal articles.
- Organise travel, accommodation and catering during rehearsal periods for cast and creative team, and provide executive support to PI, including planning meetings and arranging travel in US and UK.
- Support audience research through ethics process and liaison with public engagement team, and in person liaison with the audience during the event. Carry out initial collation of audience questionnaires, creating a shareable database that can be used as a resource for future researchers.
- Undertake data entry and maintenance of financial and budget records.
- Process expenses and resource requests using the relevant University systems, ensuring compliance with relevant policies; record and review financial data as required and report accurately.
- Support project publicity and the creation of programmes and other materials for the.
- Work with internal and external partners including at Winterbourne, with METh committee, creative team and staff elsewhere in the University.
