Our pharmacy and rheumatology departments are diverse, supportive and ambitious with a vision to strive for excellence. We have an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and innovative rheumatology and pharmacy teams.

We want to recruit an enthusiastic and proactive clinical pharmacist who is looking to progress their career in rheumatology and acute medicine.

You will work collaboratively with the Rheumatology Consultant Pharmacist and Rheumatology Highly Specialist Pharmacist (B8a) to provide a robust and effective Pharmacy service to the rheumatology specialty. You will also work with our Acute Medicine Pharmacy Team to ensure best patient care to recently admitted patients in our dynamic admissions areas.

Main duties of the job

  • Work with the Rheumatology and Acute medicine teams to further develop the service within North Bristol NHS Trust.
  • Be a qualified independent prescriber (or willing to be trained) for the Rheumatology service in an outpatient setting and Acute medicine for inpatients.
  • Manage on-going pharmaceutical care of patients being maintained on drug treatment for Rheumatological and related musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Provide an outpatient service to patients with autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, within own competence, referring when necessary.
  • Advise on strategies to ensure cost-effective use of resources.
  • Provide pharmaceutical expertise to any multidisciplinary working groups considering protocols, policies and guidelines in the specialist area and attend weekly multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Provide risk management support to the management of Rheumatology patients treated at NBT – including correct drug selection and managing supply shortages.

Personal Specification

Essential criteria

  • Pharmacy degree
  • UK registered Pharmacist
  • Previous hospital pharmacist experience
  • Completed Post Graduate certificate or equivalent in Clinical Pharmacy Practice or Rheumatology
  • Experience of audit, quality systems, medicines guideline or policy development
  • Proactive approach to the application of specialist pharmaceutical knowledge in order to enhance patient care
  • Able to manage time and prioritise effectively
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to work
  • Able to work under own initiative and as part of a team
  • Computer literate

Desirable criteria

  • Qualified Pharmacist Independent prescriber
  • Experience of teaching
  • Experience relevant to the specialist area
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Pharmacoeconomics experience

Contract: Permanent: Work 1 in 6 weekends

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Full time 37.5 hours per week)
