Hours: Full time - 37.5 hours per week

We are seeking a Consultant Healthcare Scientist in GI Pathology to join us here at North Bristol NHS Trust.

The NBT GI Pathology team provides a comprehensive tertiary service across the full range of upper GI, lower GI, and HPB cases. The department has a team of advanced BMS dissectors able to support cut-up activity. There is also potential to develop a training programme in BMS GI reporting in the department.

The NBT GI Pathology team stands as one of just seven English units granted exclusive access to cutting-edge genomic testing, presenting unparalleled opportunities for clinical advancement. With this direct access, we are poised to spearhead the development and implementation of reflex testing for GI specimens.

Moreover, we are primed to take a pivotal role in fostering and guiding research initiatives within the vibrant local and regional GI research communities, opening doors to extensive collaboration and innovation.

Main duties of the job

To be part of the GI Team in Histology, participating in dissection and reporting of GI cases, training BMS staff and participation in MDTs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Dissection and reporting of GI Pathology samples up to the certificated level.
  • Take an active role in GI Multidisciplinary Team meetings within the acute Trusts that the department serves.
  • To maintain an area of highly specialised knowledge, acting as an expert in that field.
  • Participate in training of BMS, support staff and trainee medical staff within department.

Registration/qualification

Essential criteria

  • HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
  • RCPath/IBMS Advanced Specialist Diploma (ASD) in Histopathology Reporting in GI Pathology.
  • RCPath Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in GI Pathology.
  • MSc (or equivalent) in a relevant specialty.

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of specialist expertise in GI Pathology.
  • Experience of staff management.
  • Experience of training.
