Stirling Dynamics are looking for a talented Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support our Hydro-mechanical Design capability team on a permanent basis.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be supporting the design and development of innovative technical solutions for applications within the aerospace, marine, flight simulator sectors & Urban Air Mobility sectors. The engineer will be required to work closely with Systems, Stress, Electronics, Performance & Simulation engineers within a multidisciplinary project team to ensure the delivery of projects to the agreed technical requirements, timescales and budget. They will be involved in all aspects of the product design life cycle, from initial concept generation, detailed design, implementation, product improvement and in-serve product support.
This role will be based in our Bristol office however as part of our commitment to flexible working, employees are able to work remotely for part of the time.

Responsibilities
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Technical leadership of design & development projects
- Providing robust conceptual and detailed designs to satisfy the project requirements
- Preparing design support documentation, conducting design calculations and maintaining concise engineering records
- Production of drawing packs in line with configuration management processes
- Producing mechanical designs and drawings
- Producing design specifications and interface specifications based on project requirements
- Checking and approval of technical reports and drawings
- Conducting engineering investigations for existing product improvements
- Conducting research and collating data as required for trade studies
- Compiling engineering memos & technical reports
- Conducting engineering change management activities on existing designs
- Attending meetings and workshops
- Working closely with staff to develop professional values & build good relationships
- Ensure adherence to best practice technical standards, including those issued via the Company’s Quality Management System, classifications and statutory bodies
Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in Aerospace, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
Essential skills
- Knowledge of aerospace design & manufacturing methods
- Experience of working with in aerospace environment
- Proven technical leadership
- SolidWorks & PDM Pro
- Knowledge of BS8888 & GD&T
- Familiarity with design and data configuration control
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
- Positive "Can Do" attitude
- Good verbal/communication skills
