Job Requirements/Description

Why Bristol City Council?

At Bristol City Council, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high-profile organisation. For the majority of our roles hybrid working arrangements are available, giving teams the opportunity to work in a way that suits them, balancing service need and individual choice - mixing both home and office working.

Join us and you’ll receive an excellent rewards package including flexible working and flexitime, membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, and a generous annual leave allowance. In addition, you’ll be working in a supportive environment where you’ll have the chance to make Bristol a better place and contribute to its future.

The Housing Options is recruiting to a pivotal role in our service.

We are redesigning and investing in our service to.

  • Increase our success in preventing homelessness.
  • End our use of hotels and shared temporary accommodation for families.
  • Improve move on from Temporary Accommodation.
  • Reduce our use of and spend on Temporary Accommodation.

The role of Emergency Accommodation and Placement Team Leader is an additional and exciting role fundamental in meeting our redesign objectives.

You will lead a multidisciplined team, which sources and secures emergency accommodation for homeless households daily. You will have the responsibility of ensuring that our colleagues in the Homeless Prevention Service have on the day and planned access to emergency homes for their clients in need. This provision forms part of our statutory duty to homeless households in Bristol.

The role will require you to oversee and monitor the performance of numerous providers of emergency accommodation, who form part of our Emergency Accommodation Framework.

The cost of emergency accommodation is a significant financial challenge for the Council. You will need to demonstrate significant experience of the homelessness, social and supported housing sectors. In addition, you should demonstrate your experience of budget monitoring and planning.

You will support the Temporary Accommodation Manager, in maximising the revenue recovered for the emergency placements via Housing Benefit and client contributions. Whilst ensuring that payment to contracted providers are accurate and paid on time.

The business is fast paced and reactive to the needs of clients daily, you will be a leader who can motivate, develop, and support your team to deliver an efficient, high-quality service.

Where we strive to find the most suitable emergency accommodation for a homeless households needs.

As you would expect the ability to communicate at all levels is essential, you may be talking directly to client household, accommodation provider or a partner professional to resolve daily issues or concerns.

If you can provide effective team leadership to ensure that high quality services are delivered to meet the needs of clients from the service and our partners, working to tight targets and deadlines the role is one for you.

This is a role where office based working is required but does allow for a hybrid home working approach.
