Hours: Part time - 22.5 hours per week

The Bristol Haemophilia Centre provides specialist care to adults and children with heritable bleeding, thrombotic and benign haematology disorders throughout the South West region. The post holder will be based with the Adult Haemophilia Service, which is located within the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) and comprises a treatment area, administrative office, and factor storage facility.

The Haemophilia Clinical Nurse Specialist will work within the heart of the busy Haemophilia Centre. They will be part of the multidisciplinary team and will work closely alongside the Senior Clinical Nurse Specialists and Administrative Team in delivering an excellent standard of care to all patients. Clinical skills that are desirable for the role, but not essential, include phlebotomy, cannulation and performing venesections.

The Haemophilia Clinical Nurse Specialist will provide care in all aspects of the patient journey. This will primarily be treating the patient in the out-patient setting, but can include treating patients during a hospital stay or within the community. The post holder will be involved in planning, implementing and evaluating care. They will be central in administering specialist treatments, organising after care, and acting as a point of contact for information requirements for the patient, their carer’s and other healthcare professionals.

Communication and Relationship skills

  • Demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in providing compassionate care for patients, visitors/relatives and colleagues Contribute towards sharing good practice within the multidisciplinary team.

Patient Care

  • Provide patients and staff with specialist advice to manage complex symptoms
  • Develop, improve, and promote the service ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost effective care utilising the support and guidance of senior colleagues
  • Develop and share expertise within the multidisciplinary team
  • Develop the skills to act as a resource in the care of patient’s needs, ensuring an optimum level of service to patients and their carers.
  • Work closely with community and relevant network, other hospital and community staff to ensure an effective seamless service.
  • Provide effective communication systems of support for patients
  • Build up a skill set to embed patient and public involvement within the sphere of specialist nursing practice.
  • Ensure that all patients and families are aware of all treatment options, including clinical trials
  • Work as patient advocate, to help negotiate the patient journey and ensure optimum care is provided to each patient.
  • Develop links with other organisations providing support and information.
  • Adhere to infection control guidelines and procedures.
