An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Casual Tutor to join Bristol City Council’s Community Learning Team.
We have two pay rates depending on whether you are teaching accredited (portfolio or exam based) or non-accredited courses. The rate includes planning and marking/feedback after each class plus holiday pay.
Bristol Community Learning engages people with significant barriers to learning and work. We help raise confidence whilst developing skills and knowledge so learners can progress to further learning and work.
We have high aspirations for those we work with and are committed to providing a wide range of courses developed to meet our learners’ needs. Along with high-quality teaching, we are passionate about achieving the best possible outcomes to help our learners succeed.
We are looking for tutors with the passion for and experience of community learning who have worked successfully with hard to reach learners in both classroom and community outreach settings.
You must have a teaching qualification and experience of delivering in class, preferably utilising digital platforms to enhance the learning journey. Learners often have multiple needs and can live chaotic lives which requires a dynamic and responsive working style.
You will need to be a good motivator, able to inspire and bring out the best in people so that they can realise their full potential. Whilst you will be part of a large tutor team much of your work will be independent, you therefore need to be highly motivated, organised and able to manage your own time efficiently. You will also need to be able to think on your feet and not be daunted by changing situations.
This role involves working city wide to deliver targeted courses in the community, so a willingness to travel is a must. We mirror the schools timetable and work mainly in term time only with some summer provision. We work within the OFSTED framework and apply high quality standards to our provision. We support tutors with training and coaching to maintain these standards.
We have vacancies for qualified tutors to join our team in the subject areas below. This is also an opportunity to help develop a new dynamic curriculum around each subject.
Please note that this role is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.
