Opportunity for a Water Resources Operational Procedures Manager to join our Water Resources team in Exeter or Bristol covering the South West Water, Bristol Water, Bournemouth Water and Isles of Scilly regions. You will receive a competitive salary starting from circa £52,000 plus an excellent benefits package.

The Role

The Business Partnering team is responsible for developing the water resources operational strategy, defining how the company uses its sources over the following 12 months to deliver efficiently whilst managing and mitigating water resource risk. They provide day to day hydrogeological and hydrological expertise, advice, strategy and direction to the wider business.

In this role you will be responsible for optimising and updating the operational procedures for all Water Resource Zones (WRZs) to ensure resources are operated in a way that balances factors such as cost, resources, and environmental needs in an efficient way. You will ensure that the procedures are well documented and are understood throughout the business to facilitate informed decision-making and promoting effective water management practices.

You will be highly organised, with strong track record of implementing effective processes into the workplace. You will be an effective communicator, promoting collaboration and alignment between internal stakeholders and external partners. You will be confident in leading the development of operational procedures and engaging with key internal and external stakeholders and partners. 

What you'll be doing:

  • You will lead the development and revision of the water resources operational procedures in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. You will act as the main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding these.
  • Develop procedures that describe how water resources are used and ensure these are subject to continuous improvement. These procedures should ensure factors such as cost, environmental needs, and water resource availability and future risk are efficiently balanced. These should facilitate informed decision-making and promote efficient water management practices which are well understood throughout the business.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring that operational procedures are comprehensive, accurate, and aligned with organizational objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Identify appropriate decision support tools to allow the operational function to effectively implement the procedures and collaborate with Water Resources and Operations colleagues to deliver these tools.
  • Facilitate discussions, workshops, and meetings to gather input, address concerns, and ensure stakeholder buy-in for water resources operational procedure development and updates.
  • You will act as the project manager of the development of these procedures and associated deliverables, such as completion of Operating Agreements and Operating Manuals, developed in collaboration with the EA. This will involve developing and maintaining project plans, timelines, and deliverables and revision projects.
  • Conduct quality reviews and audits of operational procedure documents to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal standards and external requirements and update the procedures regularly, by collecting insight and inputs from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with colleagues from across the company to collect inputs and development ideas associated with operational procedures and test the likely impact of changes. Proactively engage with the business to drive buy-in to development and updates.

What we are looking for:

  • Experience in water resource operations, including operational and maintenance practices, and a track record of delivering results with personal resilience and self-motivation.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, senior managers, external partners, and stakeholders, gaining wide support and influence across the business.
  • Experience in project management, document management, and business process optimisation within the water sector, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software.
  • Skilled in collecting, organising, and analysing data to inform business decisions, with a high level of numeracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience in developing and improving procedures, with a focus on quality assurance practices, process-driven approaches, and maintaining high standards.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, such as regulators, while managing multiple projects and prioritising work efficiently.
