Job Requirements/Description

RISE specialises in designing and delivering behavioural change and pyscho-educational courses, striving for a world where harmful behaviour is marginalised and fewer people are victims of abuse and crime.

An Enhanced DBS Check is required for this role.

Salary: £26,000 - £29,000 per annum

Contract: 2-year fixed term contract

Domestic Abuse Perpetrator Course

The RISE Domestic Abuse (DA) Practitioner will deliver the Preventing Intimate Partner Abuse (“PIPA”) course to perpetrators of DA, as part of Conditional/Diversionary cautions in the Avon & Somerset Police Force area. This will be delivered in a group setting or one-to-one, as appropriate, to challenge and change behaviour and provide justice and safety for victims and their families.

You will encourage self-reflection of participants on the group, including proactively working to help perpetrators identify and understand their abusive behaviour and its impact on victims and children, increase motivation of perpetrators to make positive long-term changes and start the process of behavioural change. You will work closely with other professionals to ensure appropriate steps are taken to protect where there is an imminent risk to another person. You will liaise and engage closely with victim services commissioned to increase the safety of victims and children of the perpetrator to support the management of risk.

Out of Court Resolution (OOCR) courses and assessments

RISE has also developed a range of short interventions for different offences referred by the police, which are delivered online and in person, which the postholder will deliver. These include group and one-to-one courses to address a range of specific types of offending, including DA, inappropriate sexual behaviours, hate crime, assault on emergency workers, as well as other types of offences.

You will manage cases with a range of complex needs and behaviours and undertake holistic assessments that identify risk and protective factors, and develop bespoke support plans. This includes acting as a single point of contact to secure the offender’s engagement, working alongside other partners to address the offender’s needs, with the aim of eliciting behaviour change and reducing reoffending.

You will use motivational interviewing techniques, trauma-informed and strength-based approaches in building a range of therapeutic skills to engage with service users to address their abusive behaviour.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience

In order to deliver this role, you will have:

  1. Experience of working with DA perpetrators
  2. Minimum 1-year experience working with hard-to-reach individuals.
  3. Understanding of DA risk factors and assessment.
  4. Understanding of offending behaviours, needs and issues.
  5. Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  6. Ability to motivate and engage individuals with complex needs.
  7. Ability to relate positively and empathetically but without collusion.
  8. Ability to appropriately challenge negatives attitudes, thinking and behaviours.
  9. Willingness to learn and develop from feedback about performance.
  10. Excellent team working attitude and positive experience of stakeholder engagement.
