The role

The role holder will lead a team of specialists, engineers and external suppliers ensuring the secure, efficient and smooth running of the core production environment to an appropriate level and to deliver the uninterrupted provisioning of operational services. These include storage, networking, physical infrastructure, virtual and cloud including Infrastructure as a Service and Platform as a service.

What will you be doing?

The role holder will be responsible for the management of the platforms and network teams, ensuring that they are delivering services to required service levels. Supporting the Head of Digital Infrastructure in the development and continuous improvement of an innovative and customer focussed service, driving the team to produce greater consistency and efficiency through use of standard procedures, processes and use of systems, alongside bespoke innovative solutions as required. They will manage third party support contracts ensuring that vendors are delivering to their Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and the University is receiving best value for money. Managing risk to services using risk management framework and ensuring mitigations are in place. Responsible for the disaster recovery of IT Services, ensuring that all services have recovery plans and regular testing is carried out.

Manage IT projects ensuring that they are delivered to plan and within agreed timescales and budget. Proactively monitor and manage service availability and capacity to ensure services are meeting SLAs and capacity is proactively managed. Responsible for professional mentoring and coaching of team resources ensuring that the capabilities of the team develop alongside industry change. Deliver training on area of expertise as required, developing suitable materials and performance measures. Embed a team culture which promotes the use of collaboration and software management tools and programming best practices to ensure development is managed in a controlled environment as standard practice. Ensure that the products, suppliers and vendors come together to deliver an effective service to the business.
