Job Requirements/Description

Why Bristol City Council?

At Bristol City Council, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high-profile organisation.

Join us and you’ll receive a generous rewards package including flexible working and flexitime, membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, and a generous annual leave allowance. In addition, you’ll be working in a supportive environment where you’ll have the chance to make Bristol a better place and contribute to its future.

A number of exciting opportunities have arisen to join the Post 16 Service in the role of a Personal Adviser as part of the growth and development of our service. The role of the personal adviser is a statutory role to provide advice, guidance, and continued support to care experienced young people from the age of seventeen through to adulthood. As a personal adviser you will lead the statutory assessment and preparation and review of the pathway plan and co-ordinate the delivery of services through relationship based support.

As a Personal adviser you would support approximately 21 Care Leavers and you will need to demonstrate that you are confident in undertaking assessment of needs, writing reports and plans for young people. The role requires a high level of direct work with young people and applicants should be passionate, creative, organised, and aspirational in their work with young people. Our work can be reactive and fast paced and you will need to be trauma informed and have the ability to work on your own and have the skills to challenge constructively. Mostly our Care Leavers live in and around Bristol but some live further afield, so you may need to travel. We have pool cars for you to use.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals to join our service, who are passionate about supporting young people in times of transition to achieve their best. This is an exciting time to join the Post 16 Service as we are growing and developing our offer to care experienced young people. The new posts will be based in two newly established teams; the 21+ care leaver team and a specialist care leaver team for asylum seeking young people.

The 21+ service will support Care Leavers over 21 from a new dedicated and bespoke building. This will create an opportunity for us to work together in a shared space enabling a sense of community. As a Personal adviser working in this new service, you will be working on a 1:1 basis with Care Leavers, involved in group work and working within multi-professional networks. You will co-create write and support our young people to develop their pathway plans supporting them towards independence. You will have the opportunity to facilitate drop ins and group sessions, you will work closely with our multi-disciplinary partners on the development and delivery of these drop-in sessions and workshops.

The Asylum Team is a specialist team building upon the work which has already occurred from the social work team who work with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children ensuring continuity focussing on supporting asylum seeking care leavers as they make the transition to adulthood.

Please note that this role is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.
