At UHBW, we have seen our Pharmacy Technicians develop their career in specialist clinical areas and senior management positions, all ranging from Band 4 to Band 8 - we're now looking for the future of Pharmacy for UHBW!

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will gain a formal professional qualification and will be eligible to register with the GPhC.

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum of 4 GCSE’s (or equivalent) A-C/9-4, which must include Maths, English and Science (certificates will ideally be seen at interview)

Main duties of the job

Pharmacy technicians are increasingly playing an important role in supporting patients with their medicines, complementing and working with pharmacists and other members of the multi-disciplinary team in clinical environments.

Across the 2-year apprenticeship, you will experience all areas of Pharmacy including taster placements across the local area, develop practical skills whilst learning on the job and continue to support patients throughout their hospital experience.

The pharmacy technician profession includes a wide range of duties including:

  • Dispensing and accuracy checking of prescribed items
  • Providing medication related information to patients and other healthcare professionals
  • Medicine Optimisation duties, including reconciling patients medication, POD checks, patient counselling and being part of the wider multi-disciplinary team

Alongside this day to day work you will also get off the job training time to develop the additional skills required to be a pharmacy technician including:

  • Understanding medicines regulations and law
  • Increasing but not limited to clinical knowledge on the use of medicines and their mechanism of actions
  • Principals of aseptic manufacture.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

  • 4 GCSE passes at grade C or 4 and above including Maths, English and Science (note you must have the necessary certificates available as evidence)

Desirable criteria

  • Qualifications at A level or above
  • NVQ Level 2 certificate in pharmacy service skills

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

  • Good standard of literacy and numeracy
  • Computer literate

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience of working in pharmacy
  • A good understanding of the role of a pharmacy technician
  • Understanding of the GPhC standards for pharmacy professionals

Contract: 24 months (Fixed Term)

Hours: Full time - 37.5 hours per week (20% off the job training (1 day a week))
