Opportunity for a Water Resource Modeller to join our Water Resources team and carry out all the day to day modelling activity covering the South West Water, Bristol Water, Bournemouth Water and Isles of Scilly regions. You will receive a competitive salary of up to circa £32,000 to £40,000 pa plus an excellent benefits package.
The Role
In this role you will be responsible for delivering the day-to-day modelling needs of the function, including modelling needs identification, model construction, verification / calibration, model population, running of models, and production of model outputs including quality assurance, undertaking an initial interpretation of those outputs.
In addition to the day-to-day activity you will also support delivery of a series of modelling improvement projects committed to in WRMP29, namely: Water Resource Zone model improvements; Regional model development; Rainfall runoff model development; Ground water model development.
This role will provide you with an excellent opportunity in the water resources sector and enable you to develop a good level of understanding across a range of areas.
What you'll be doing:
- Deliver modelling as a service to the Water Resources Function, working with stakeholders to define scope and handover a quality output.
- Deliver a regime of model maintenance and assurance for those models you own to ensure models are available for timely use.
- You are responsible for the time and quality delivery of modelling projects and activities, managing resources appropriately to ensure all reports meet required timescales and quality standards.
- Undertake Quality Assurance on modelling outputs.
- Support delivery of modelling based commitments within WRMP29.
- You will provide insights to modelling outputs and identify and implement industry innovation and good practice in order to mature the modelling service offer.
- Gather stakeholder feedback, to identify and implement service improvement opportunities.
What we are looking for:
- Degree in appropriate subject such as Hydrology, Environmental Science, Water resource management, or numerate subject such as Maths, Science, Engineering.
- Experience in delivering technical outputs in an accessible and easily understandable manner.
- Driven and motivated modelling professional, with strong interest in water resource management and passionate about identifying relevant innovative practices from within and beyond the sector.
- Excellent, numerical, analytical and communication skills, able to consolidate and analyse complex models and communicate these in an approach aligned to your audience.
- Ideally you will have experience in modelling complex water systems using industry-standard software such as MISER, Aquator, and Pywr, with prior experience or a passion for the water sector.
