Job Requirements/Description

You will join a team focused on Environmental Mineralogy at the University of Bristol. Through a project funded by OFWAT you will collaborate with researchers at the University of Lancaster, undertaking cutting edge research to develop reactive composite materials capable of removing dissolved organic matter (DOC) from drinking water as part of the next generation of water treatment technologies. 

What will you be doing?

  • Synthesising reactive materials in batch, and continuous flow systems using a state of the art reactor.
  • Assessing performance of materials to remove dissolved organic carbon from environmentally relevant water.
  • Use analytical techniques (e.g. IC, FTIR, XRD and electron microscopy) to study changes to material composition and quality.
  • Collaborate with water industry.

You should apply if

Demonstrated experience in (geo)chemistry. Familiar and comfortable working with quantitative techniques (e.g., UV/Vis spectrophotometry) as well as firm understanding of analytical techniques (e.g. FTIR, XRD, or similar). You will need excellent organisational skills, with the ability to deal with and prioritise tasks. You will need to be able to review as well as advise on complex procedures and consistently maintain a high level of accuracy and precision in all areas of work. You should have a PhD in (geo)chemistry, environmental sciences or related subject or working towards one.
