The role

As a Software Development Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary where will have the opportunity to play a key role in supporting the Royal Navy’s applications to ensure timely software deliveries.  

Day-to-day, you’ll lead and manage our software development team and help us continue to grow our business and contribute to our goal.  

  • Lead and manage one of the organisations Software Development teams focused on creating and maintaining software applications using Microsoft Technologies and Oracle backend systems.
  • Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle, from initial planning, requirement analysis, estimation, and design to development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Collaborate and partner with cross-functional teams including project managers, architects, test, business analysts, infrastructure, and service team to deliver software solutions on time, within scope and budget.
  • Manage the demands for bug fixing, system enhancements including continuous application development and changes resulting from technology refresh.
  • Ensure adherence to best practices in software development, including Agile methodologies and ensure high-quality software solutions that meet business requirements.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Software Development Manager:

  • Significant experience in software development, with a strong focus on Microsoft Technologies with SQL server and Oracle backend systems, and experience within a management role.
  • Significant experience in .NET, C#, API development and integration, SQL server and Oracle Databases
  • Significant experience with Azure DevOps, including setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines. 
  • Experience in cloud environment, particularly Azure is a plus.
  • Experience with Agile development methodology and leading Agile teams.
  • Significant experience of software development to realise the desired requirements and design.

 Qualifications for the Software Development Manager:

  • Education to A-Level standard. 
  • Degree preferred.
  • Professional training qualifications desirable.

Security Clearance

  • The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
