Job Requirements/Description

We are recruiting for a Mobile Security Officer to cover the Residential assistant role when relief cover is required at one of our sites. The role covers the South West and travel will be required.

This is a relief position working 12 hours per shift. The shifts start at 8pm and finish at 8am. The role will include weekends as well as weekdays and bank holidays working 48 hours per week. The hourly rate is £12 per hour plus attendance allowance.

A full UK driving licence is essential for this role as travelling will be required. You will need to have access to a vehicle. Fuel expenses will be covered. An SIA licence & first aid certificate is necessary for the role.

We are looking to expand our team which provides 24-hour support to residents at various Probation Service Approved Premises (AP) including security, welfare and monitoring services.

You will provide assistance and support to offenders to reduce their risk of re-offending, and ensure that residents, visitors, colleagues and the fabric of the premises are kept safe and secure.

Main Duties & Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Undertake regular inspections and patrols of the building, including patrols of common areas in accordance with local procedures /damage or defects
  • Always maintain an active presence in the AP, always remaining awake and vigilant whilst on duty. Sleeping whilst on duty is not permitted.
  • Monitor behaviour of high-risk residents and motivate residents to ensure compliance, and regularly engage with residents in a pro-social manner.
  • Ensure that the AP is locked and secure during curfew period, and confirm the presence and wellbeing of residents overnight
  • Support and create a safe working environment for staff, residents, and visitors by adhering to Health and Safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct curfew and night checks as directed and record details of these
  • Deal with visitors and telephone calls and monitor the work of visiting contractors in accordance with health and safety policies.
  • Undertake First Aid if required
  • Adhere to all policies in respect of sensitive/confidential information.
  • Monitor CCTV systems as required and take responsibility for all internal security, including access control.
  • Respond appropriately to abusive or aggressive behaviour, supporting the NPS staff.
  • Supporting the NPS staff with additional duties as required.
  • Communicate regularly with staff through formal and informal channels on safety matters to ensure that there is a free flow of ideas and that morale remains high.
  • Ensure that the OCS safety image is reflected positively through your actions and those of your subordinates.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that a safe system of work is produced and communicated to employees prior to the commencement of the work activity.
  • Ensure that work activities are properly managed and supervised.
  • Work closely with the Regional & Group Health and Safety team who are available to provide safety advice and support.

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • SIA Security Guarding Licence
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Experience in a similar role – security, probation, or equivalent
  • Good IT skills
  • Qualification in First Aid
  • Experience of working with a diverse range of people who have experienced a range of social/personal difficulties
  • Awareness of health and safety issues
  • Strong communication skills required (verbal and written) and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals, including those who may present difficult or aggressive behaviour.
  • Ability to use and work on own initiative
  • Understanding of and commitment to equality and diversity along with a caring approach
  • Understanding of factors related to offending – e.g. substance use, mental health
  • Knowledge and understanding of risk assessment/ risk management relating to offenders
  • Ability to work flexibly
  • Security and identity checks – Enhanced DBS - this will be completed during our vetting process following successful application.
